The sun bows down as if before an altar
To laud their steadfast fight against time and tide
Though beaten, he knows they'll never falter
As year after year they stand by each other's side
We too depend daily upon their quiet strength
Yet in the grind we can often take for granted
And must admit as we ponder our life at length
That only in their root-love could we stay planted
On this day as we watch them in the distance ahead
It strikes my soul of what we would become
Should they be gone and we must face the dread
Of life without our twin rocks in the setting sun
(For Lois & Deb, with love & gratitude.)
