Some people believe that having faith means checking your brains at the door. I do not. Mindless faith is merely superstition. Faith requires reason and experience, much like science. But faith can go beyond the limits of science into the hope & imagination of what God wants us to become.
Some are afraid, for instance, that if the creation account in Genesis is not literal, but poetic, in its truth, that they cannot maintain their faith. I say the opposite. Faith that is afraid of discovery cannot remain faith, but must deteriorate into empty ritual. For it is not doubt that is the enemy of faith, but fear. God is alive to be discovered, not dead to be eulogized in repetitive phrases.
Think. Discover. Be Not Afraid. “Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me." (John 14:1 RSV)
